We found someplace that loves us the way we are....

This weekend was seriously metal.

The Scary Art Collective makes its debut at Sacramento's premier adult toy store, Grind & Groove. Brutal.

The geeky outsider artists of the Scary Art Collective together with the open-minded, 'anything goes' atmosphere engendered by Anna and Jen at Grind & Groove makes for one hell of an evening. For those of you who were unable to make it out this weekend, the art is up on the walls until the end of the month, and it is SO worth a trip to Midtown Sacramento just to see it (2226 K Street).

Collective founder, Nicolas Caesar may have found his calling. Grind & Groove purchased several of his pieces for the store's permanent collection, AND they are commissioning even more. His "Pocket Rocket" now hangs, appropriately, above the vibrators, downstairs in the toy room. Care to guess where "Mr. Lube" hangs?

Grind & Groove did their biggest night so far in art sales, and there were more than quite a few "little black bags" (G&G's answer to a plain brown wrapper) coming up from downstairs to be discretely rung up by a friendly and helpful staff. The headcount (ahem...) ended up somewhere around 1,600 by the end of the night!!!!

A few of the guest artists who participated were new to the whole art show scene, and some were just new to Scary Art Collective shows. I'm totally loving the screenprints by Vacaville area artists, Barry Barnes. Barry's had some difficulty finding venues ... there seem to be prudes running the galleries these days. Even the more tame of his pieces, "bras" has met with some stink-eye.

but his S&M screenprints are just stunning:

Awesome, ain't he? And, as Nicolas says, he truly is "a real laid back cat."

Sue of Ceramic Oddities had another successful evening in Sacramento, following on the tails of her successes at Bats Day in August and the Scary Art Collective show in October. The Collective is pleased to say that we've finally taken the big step and are making an honest woman out of Sue. Please join with us in welcoming her to our little team.

Since we're congratulating folks, please drop by Miss Evie Turner's site and wish her well for making our membership list. Although Evie only started showing with us at the Grind & Groove show, she's been a long-time supporter of and collaborator with the Collective and our artists. Evie is well known as a real lover of outsider art and mentored CoolCat Gallery, Collective members, Mark Fox and Cinder through the very successful KVIE Art Auction in 2007.

You know what the BEST news is, though? WE'LL BE BACK AT GRIND & GROOVE IN AUGUST!

Thanks so much to all of the artists and to EVERYONE who came out to support art and sex toys (together at last).
